Medications & First Aid

As you know, we try very hard to keep parents regularly informed about first-aid incidents and medication administration at school. Sending paper notifications home can be rather ‘hit and miss’ with notifications often going astray along the way.

We are also increasingly aware of the substantial cost, time and environmental impact associated with the amount of paper and photocopying involved with this.

To help make improvements in these areas, we use a service called Medical Tracker. Medical Tracker not only allows us to inform parents/carers of first aid incidents and medication administration by email, but it also allows us to analyse the data we record.

Medical Tracker will be beneficial to you because:

  • We can record and track first-aid incidents that involve your child
  • We can record and track medication administration that involves your child
  • You can be notified immediately after a first-aid incident by email

To use Medical Tracker effectively, we need to collect the best email address to use to notify you of incidents. Please ensure that this is the same address used for all other school correspondence (e.g. Class Dojo)

Medications

If your child requires a medication, cream, or prescribed supplements to be administered during the school day, we will log and track this on Medical Tracker.

Please note; we are only able to administer items that are either:

  • prescribed to be given specifically during school hours
  • prescribed to be given more than 3 times per day (in this instance, school will administer 1 dose, and the remaining 3 doses are to be given at home)
  • prescribed to be used as needed e.g. creams for skin conditions which may be needed after intimate care, hand washing, or swimming), asthma inhalers, etc

All medications sent into school need to be:

  •  New, unopened medications (double-check those expiry dates!)
  • Must have pharmacy label with your child's name

Once these are sent in, they will be logged onto Medical Tracker, and you will receive an email notification to approve each medication. Please be sure to look out for this and complete approval as soon as possible.

When medications are running low, or are approaching their expiry date, you will receive an email notification from Medical Tracker advising you to send more in, if needed.

Quick reminder: having your current email address helps us keep everything running smoothly with our medical tracking system!

First Aid

If your child has a first aid incident whilst at school, this will be logged onto Medical Tracker, detailing what happened, details of the injury, and how this was treated.

For minor injuries you will receive a notification email from Medical Tracker to inform you of the incident, and will be asked to click to confirm you have acknowledged this.

If any injury is more significant, or is a bump to the head, you will receive a phone call from school as soon after the incident as possible to notify you of this.
