Our Learning

Spring 2

April 2026

This half term in Norway Spruce we have learnt about the Vikings: how they travelled, what they ate and what they wore. We also dressed up like a Viking which the children enjoyed. We have been exploring different religious festivals in RE, such as Rosh Hashannah, Hanukkah, Diwali and Holi. The children have designed their own Holi t-shirt using paint and danced to different Hindu music using scarves. In English we have been reading and exploring the book ‘My Granny went to Market.’ We have made predictions about the different places Granny visited and the things she would buy. We also used adjectives to describe Granny. In Art we have been learning about Andy Warhol and how he uses bright colours to create Popart. We created our own pieces of artwork using technology and also using oil pastels to add pops of colours creating our own Popart.

Science

February 2026

This half term in Norway Spruce we have been exploring all things space. We have learnt about the Solar system and the names of the planets in science. We have looked at the moon phases using Oreos to represent this. We have also created a class mobile of the solar system and created rockets using different materials in DY. In English we have explore different rhyming stories linked to space which the children have thoroughly enjoyed especially ‘The dinosaur that pooped a planet’. We created our own poems about the dinosaur using different adjectives we collected as a class and then we created a class acrostic poem about Space. In maths we have been learning to add and takeaway and exploring different lengths, using ‘shorter and longer’.

Autumn Term

November 2025

This autumn term in Norway Spruce class has been full of learning and exciting activities. In maths, pupils have been working on money, recognising coins and notes, counting amounts, and applying their skills in practical tasks. During Road Safety Week, they took part in activities that helped them understand how to stay safe near roads. In RE, pupils have been learning about Muslims, exploring beliefs, celebrations, and daily life. Alongside this, the class has enjoyed a wide range of learning across the curriculum, including creative art projects, reading and writing tasks, science investigations, and PE sessions that have helped build confidence and teamwork. It has been a busy and positive term, with everyone making great progress.

Settling In

September 2025

In Norway Spruce we have been developing our understanding of the Ant and the Grasshopper, delving deeper into the vocabulary to better understand the text. We have also been sequencing the story.

In maths we have explored different sock pattern, discussing the colours, shapes etc. We have also been learning about 3D shapes and their properties.

In Art we have drawn our own buildings in the style of LS Lowry including matchstick men. In computing we have been looking at different search engines and how to search for things safely. We copied and pasted an image of our choice on to a word document with support. We also created poppies for our poppy wreath ready for Remembrance Day.
