“I have the right to be listened to and taken seriously”
Unicef Rights Respecting Schools Article 12
In Laurel Class, we are able to express our views, opinions, likes and dislikes in a range of ways. We are able to make choices using gesture, vocalisations, symbols, communication boards and communication books. We also use zones of regulation to state how we are feeling.
This half term, we have been tasting different foods linked to our topics. We have been tasting different Greek food linked to our History topic “Ancient Greeks” We have also made and tasted Chinese food linked to Chinese New Year. We were able to use a communication board to state if we liked the different things that we tasted….sometimes our faces showed if we liked it or not!

Hawthorn children are Musicians and Mathematicians! This term in Hawthorn, we have been having weekly visits from Paul from Live Music Now. He has been working with us in class to create a Children in Need song. We used boomwhackers of different lengths to make different sounds and tapped them together. In Maths, we have been using cubes to measure length and have been continuing to develop our recognition of Numicon.

In Laurel Class this week we have been getting excited for Halloween by reading the book ‘Funnybones’.
We have particularly enjoyed playing with Halloween props linked to the story, and even learnt the ‘skeleton dance’!
We have also used symbol boards to match Halloween related symbols such as pumpkins, monsters and ghosts, which has helped us to learn this vocabulary too.
